This first-year composition course uses Harlem as both a real and symbolic site to explore the intersections of writing, place, and cultural identity. Framed by the contemporary realities of gentrification, students will examine how language shapes and responds to changes in communities, particularly Harlem, and how writing can preserve, challenge, or reimagine cultural narratives.
